FlyNet on long-haul widebody and most A320-family short-haul, on legacy Viasat (ex-Inmarsat) hardware — free messaging, paid for full browsing. Lufthansa Group signed Starlink for its whole ~850-aircraft fleet in January 2026, but retrofits only begin in the second half of 2026 and run to 2029, so expect legacy GEO service on almost every flight for now.

BA's free-for-everyone Starlink service went live in March 2026, but only a handful of 787-8s were converted before installs were suspended for the summer peak and pushed to around October 2026 — so the odds your specific aircraft has the free Starlink product are still very low.

Wi-Fi across the whole fleet, but who gets it free depends on which aircraft you draw. Starlink-equipped jets offer it free to everyone; on the legacy fleet — still the large majority — free access is tied to Skywards tier and cabin, with lower tiers in economy getting messaging only. Emirates is retrofitting all 232 of its 777s and A380s (the A380s take three antennas each), though the real install pace has run well below the announced target.
